Xbox Live hacked, accounts stolen

Online gaming forums are buzzing with reports that Xbox Live accounts linked to Microsoft's Windows Live ID service are being hijacked by malicious hackers.

Kevin Finisterre, a security researcher at Digital Munition, raised the issue on the Full Disclosure mailing list over the weekend, calling attention to rumors that Microsoft's Bungie.net was the victim of a breach that exposed a portion of Xbox Live.

"Some folks are having their Microsoft points stolen and or points purchased via their stolen gamer tag," Finisterre said.

A quick search of user forums at xbox.com and other gaming sites turned up multiple messages from Xbox Live users complaining about hijacked accounts, which typically link gamer tags to Windows Live ID (formerly .NET Passport).

Got my credit card details and ran up a hefty bill.... 	friend of people who do it says: people who have had their account stolen, it is obvious they have changed your windows live id on windows live.com and changed everything up. Their is no solution to the problem but to have the accounts frozen because you dont know the live id or password it was changed to. most are smart and make these hacking sites or take the accounts on ip's that arent theirs or get a middle man to do it for them, smartest advice is report your claim and do all you can and learn from you or your childs mistake as it was you who could have prevented it. This guy told my son that he could join this Halo Tournament to win MS points and games but all he had to do was go to his console and change his email address to maxs101@live.com (spam this please) and update the password then he will get notified to change it back.
