The NY Times reports that Microsoft is ending its partnership with IBM to found it's own chip design lab to work on chips for a planned third generation Xbox:
The design effort will initially be split between research labs at the company's headquarters in Redmond, Wash., and its Silicon Valley campus here. Tentatively named the Computer Architecture Group, the project underscores sweeping changes in the industry.

Here is a video of the Broadway chip being made, including a look at the final thing, sort of. It also has a little bit of cool footage from inside IBM. IBM is just like, yes, we have a ton of money.

IBM confirmed today that they started shipping the brains of the Nintendo Wii for their New York fab plant about three weeks ago.
Ron Martino, director, of IBM Technology Collaboration Solutions, wouldn't tell me how many of the "Broadway" chips have been produced so far or how many they will be able to manufacture by Nintendo's still to be announced launch window later this year. Nintendo also declined to release details about chip production.
