The long wait is over. Sony's next generation console has finally launched in Europe.
At Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street in London, the rather subdued crowd were given a special treat.
Everyone who bought a PlayStation 3 worth £425 were also given a 46-inch BRAVIA HD television worth over £2,500 and a taxi home.
In total, the giveaway amounted to £250,000 worth of televisons to more than 100 gamers.

Europe has been really getting shafted in the console wars with constant delays, releases after other continents, and even the prices for the systems are becoming ridiculous.
Spanish gaming site MeriStation, is claiming that Ken Kutaragi stated that the launch date for the European community could end up being in May. This is mainly due to the fact that current Japanese and US launch problems and shortages would adversly affect the European launch also.

Shares of Sony fell after the company halved its forecast for shipments of the PlayStation 3 this year, delaying its introduction in Europe by four months.
The stock declined 2 percent to 4,950 yen, a six-week low, as of 9:50 a.m. in Tokyo. The delay was due to parts shortages for the Blu-ray DVD player included in the console, Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said yesterday. A SCE European representative today confirmed that the slogan is the final European PS3 slogan to be used for launch marketing. This presumably includes the UK but SCE UK could not confirm this for sure at the time of press. The SCEE spokesperson added that he could not confirm whether North America and Japan would use their own slogans.

Sony announced the expansion of the PS2 & PSP line-up in Europe with the introduction of a new color Pink!.
A limited edition Pink PSP Value Pack will be available from 27th October and will include a Pink PSP, with all the accessories.
The new Pink PS2 will be available from 8th November, and will have its public debut at the Games Convention in Leipzig, held from 23rd to the 27th of August.
