As a result of the complexities of decoding HD DVD audio and video content, as well as providing a user interface and DRM, over 4.7 million lines of code went into the HD DVD software.

The Xbox 360 HD-DVD player will sell for $199.99 in North America starting in "mid-November."

The HD-DVD player add-on will include a copy of King Kong in HD DVD for a limited time and a 360 Universal Media Remote. It will sell for €199.99/£129.99 in the UK, France and Germany.

Sources in Taiwan's optical disc drive (ODD) industry point that Microsoft is working on a new generation of Xbox 360's which will be equipped with an internal HD-DVD drive and is selecting manufacturers in Taiwan to build the drive. Microsoft will offer an external HD-DVD drive for its Xbox 360 at around the end of this year, in an attempt to compete with the PS3, which will have a built-in Blu-ray Disc (BD) drive. 1. A holiday HD-DVD Xbox360 add-on that will be very inexpensive (around the $200 mark) and is rumored to only require component inputs. No HDMI in sight. This would of course point the finger to no HDCP being used on initial HD-DVD movie disks as expected.

2. For you folks that are buying the new 1080P panels that are now on the market, have no fear, as the Xbox360 looks to already support 1080P resolutions. All that will need to be changed is the connecting cable. Little more information is known on this or if there will be a gaming...

Microsoft is scheduled to demonstrate the first Xbox 360 featuring an HD DVD drive on Monday afternoon at the DVD Forum in Los Angeles, according to event organizers.

HD DVD is the next generation of DVD, and Microsoft is among those supporting the technology in its struggle against the rival Blu-ray format. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said in January that Microsoft would roll out an HD DVD-equipped Xbox before the end of the year.
