Xbox 360 owners may have noticed that their systems make as much noise as rush hour traffic. Between the power brick that doubles as a heater and the fans inside the casing that cool the innards, Microsoft's console might as well be called the Cacophony-box 360.

But all that is about to change. Beginning in 2007, the 360 will get a new processor, one that is smaller and cooler. The Singapore-based company that manufactures the current 90 nanometer chip has a new design for a 65nm CPU.

Here is a video of the Broadway chip being made, including a look at the final thing, sort of. It also has a little bit of cool footage from inside IBM. IBM is just like, yes, we have a ton of money.

Wii Chip Shipments Started About 3 Weeks Ago!

IBM confirmed today that they started shipping the brains of the Nintendo Wii for their New York fab plant about three weeks ago.

Ron Martino, director, of IBM Technology Collaboration Solutions, wouldn't tell me how many of the "Broadway" chips have been produced so far or how many they will be able to manufacture by Nintendo's still to be announced launch window later this year. Nintendo also declined to release details about chip production.

IGN Removed Rumor - Portable GameCube in the Works?

For several minutes, in fact. Earlier today, IGN's Matt Casamassina posted an article that served to round up several wily Wii rumors, including the usual price ($229) and launch date (2 Nov. or 12 Nov.) suspects. More interesting, however, was the indication given by mysterious sources that IBM was in the process of shrinking and slowing down the Wii's Broadway chip for a "future Nintendo handheld -- presumably one that plays Gamecube discs."
