According to a revealing new interview over at the Wall Street Journal, Ken Kutaragi was a "stumbling block" to Sony's CEO Howard Stringer. The article describes Kutaragi as a "renegade" who was "notorious within the company for his reluctance to communicate with his bosses or other units."
"In developing the PlayStation 3 console, the device's latest iteration, Mr. Kutaragi went over budget on development costs without informing Mr. Stringer, according to a person familiar with the situation. When Mr. Stringer urged Mr. Kutaragi to have...

Ken Kutaragi has promised an "AV-centric PS3." So instead of buying a PS3 for gaming, it would be for enhanced audio and graphics capabilities instead. Obviously Ken mentioned that it would be a lot more expensive than the current PS3 which is damn expensive already. Speculation around the announcement is guessing at an expected price tag of about $2,500. The new PS3 would include a "power supply unit, anti-shake insulator, twice the main memory, and 2x HDMI to split sound and video output."

In a shock move, the PlayStation godfather, Ken Kutaragi, has been eased out of his position as president of Sony Computer Entertainment and will be replaced by Kaz Hirai, the head of SCEI's US division.
Kutaragi loses day-to-to control of the division responsible for the PlayStation lineup, instead becoming chairman and group CEO. The move is likely to be seen as connected to the PS3 launch delays and poor PSP sales.

Europe has been really getting shafted in the console wars with constant delays, releases after other continents, and even the prices for the systems are becoming ridiculous.
Spanish gaming site MeriStation, is claiming that Ken Kutaragi stated that the launch date for the European community could end up being in May. This is mainly due to the fact that current Japanese and US launch problems and shortages would adversly affect the European launch also.
Sony is “categorically” denying that there are going to be further delays for...

Sony president Ken Kutaragi has strongly refuted the idea that competitors Xbox 360 and Wii will outsell PS3.
When asked whether the rival consoles will outstrip Sony’s next-gen machine, he replied simply: “We do not care.”
But he conceded that Sony is still struggling with the production of PS3’s Blu-Ray drive: “Right now, it is an issue, because we can’t manufacture enough blue laser diodes for our PlayStation 3s. But we will resolve that.”
Speaking at a PS3 showcase in the PlayStation lounge of Sony’s Tokyo HQ,...

Following up on Ken Kutaragi's pre-TGS keynote address, Japanese site Impress Watch has posted the latest in its "Random Tracking" editorial series. This periodic feature is written by Munechika Nishida, a well-known contributor to the Asahi Shimbun newspaper and Ultra One PC magazine, and this latest update has some surprising revelations on the PS3.
To most gamers, the most eye-catching part of the feature is a claim about game prices. Citing "multiple information sources," the article states that the price of PS3 games will be...

The focus of the three-day show is PlayStation 3 from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., which announced earlier this month that its Europe launch would be delayed until March. PS3 will go on sale on Nov. 11 in Japan and Nov. 17 in the United States.
During a talk session, SCE President Ken Kutaragi said the company is doing its utmost to stick to the revised launch schedule. The PS3 was first expected to hit stores worldwide in the spring but was changed to November before the delay of the European launch.
"We have to take a risk when we...

Most should already expect the PlayStation 3 to be backwards compatible with original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software, but the new word is that Sega MegaDrive/Genesis and NEC PC Engine/TurboGrafx systems will also be emulated. Certainly, this mimics Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console feature. Pricing structure has yet to be revealed, but we expect something in the $5 to $15 range.

It seems to be one thing after another for Sony Corp. these days.
After a recall involving millions of Sony-made personal computer batteries and yet another delay for the PlayStation 3 game console, even one of Sony's top executives is questioning whether the company is on the right track.
"If you asked me if Sony's strength in hardware was in decline, right now I guess I would have to say that might be true," game unit head Ken Kutaragi said after Sony pushed back the PS3's European launch by four months to March.
The delay means...

Shares of Sony fell after the company halved its forecast for shipments of the PlayStation 3 this year, delaying its introduction in Europe by four months.
The stock declined 2 percent to 4,950 yen, a six-week low, as of 9:50 a.m. in Tokyo. The delay was due to parts shortages for the Blu-ray DVD player included in the console, Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said yesterday. Tokyo- based Sony said Japanese and U.S. sales are on track for a November release.
"The news is negative," Eiichi Katayama, an analyst at...
