Here's the link to the Gentoo install instructions. Have fun installing and checking out Gentoo on your PS3. At this point though, let me warn you- The installation isn't for those who've never spent time at the Linux command line. While the instructions can be understood and followed by everyone, we'd prefer it if total newbies stayed away from it for a little while, until we sort out the wiki and add lots more Gentoo-specific content. You can also ask for help in our forums where me and other Gentoo users will be eager to help you...

Multiple sites, including PVRWire, are reporting on gamers illegally copying movies to the PS3 hard drive. Once the large file is on the hard drive, it's possible that someone could figure out a way to burn them.
It only took a few days, but already the Linux PS3 has enabled piracy. As the months continue, users are certain to find other ways to exploit Sony's new console. The fault lies with those committing the crime as the majority of those who download Terra Soft's Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 are likely doing so legitimately.

The opportunity to run Linux on the PS3 seems to be presenting hackers with a route to attack. It is possible to dump PS3 Blu-Ray imaes to ISO files via a Linux install. If you have a 60GB HDD PS3, you may dump images directly via the following command 'dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/imagename.img'. That said, the file structure of PS3 games is said to be similar of thsoe on the PSP. A dump of Madden 07 reveals the game is just over 7GB in size.

From this link you can see that they are offering compatibility with the PS3, using E17, which isn’t exactly KDE or Gnome, but you never know, it may be supported, bringing a more usable desktop to your PS3.
