Great interview with Perrin Kaplan about the Nintendo Wii.
Perrin says the Wii is region free and mentions that HD and DVD playback wasn't added due to cost implications.

Bad news for those who can read Japanese and wants to play games months or years before the US, turns out Wii will be region locked. This is in spite of earlier quotes from Perrin Kaplan stating that Wii will be region-free.
