According Reggie Fils-Aime the company will be intensifying the production of new units to take care of the shortage.

But we also understand that there are hundreds of thousands of consumers still waiting to get their hands on the system so we continue to both ship more units to retail every week and work non-stop to build capacity", he said.

Online play has become one of the most essential features in this generation of gaming. With so many multiplayer-oriented games coming out for the Wii, you have to wonder why Nintendo has been so hesitant in jumping on the online bandwagon. Suprisingly enough, it's actually starting to look like they're ready to bring the heat.
In a recent interview with The Mercury News, Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime discussed the future of Wii online play. He said online development kits have been seeded and titles are coming.

Nintendo has sold some 600,000 Wiis to date, giving you an idea of how many units they had at launch.
Speculation over the number of Wii consoles available for the November 19 North American launch topped one million units. In truth, Nintendo shipped closer to 60% of the projection number of Wiis. In a press release, Nintendo announced it had sold more than 600,000 Wii units to date and that with first-party and accessory sales the system had brought in $190 million in its first week.

Nintendo will be making money from every unit of Wii hardware and software sold, says Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.
"We will make a profit on the entire Wii proposition out of the box--hardware and software," Fils-Aime told Reuters.
"That really is a very different philosophy versus our competitors. We are a company that competes only in the interactive entertainment space, so we have to make a profit on everything we do."
