The PlayStation 3 operating system used at the Tokyo Game Show was apparently not final. Sony confirmed that the company has been in the process of finalizing it and that just like the Wii's OS, it will be upgradeable in the future.
Last week when the news broke regarding the PlayStation 3's technical and overheating problems at TGS, industry sources indicated that the PS3's operating system was not final at the Tokyo Game Show and that that may have led to certain glitches that players experienced at the event.
As it turns out SCEA has...

In a podcast that's supposed to wrap up TGS 2006, the folks of GamesRadar have proudly declared that the PSP has failed. They state that nothing really notable was shown for the PSP during TGS2006 except Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, compared to four to five DS games that were featured at TGS 2006. According to them, the word from Developers at TGS 2006 is that the PSP is either failing or has already failed.
The tone of the PodCast's take on the handheld scene is that the DS just has so much more official content compared to the...

"We have to take a risk when we...

Most should already expect the PlayStation 3 to be backwards compatible with original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software, but the new word is that Sega MegaDrive/Genesis and NEC PC Engine/TurboGrafx systems will also be emulated. Certainly, this mimics Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console feature. Pricing structure has yet to be revealed, but we expect something in the $5 to $15 range.

At a press conference kicking of the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, Sony has announced its online plans for its upcoming next-gen PlayStation 3 console, including a Global Mapping System, personalized shopping, and the announcement of an open network for users.

They appear to be from the Sony booth at TGS (They're setting up the PS3 demo pods there). The retail boxes are probably empty, for display only, since the guy seems to be taking a 60GB PS3 out of a non-descript brown box, to place in the demo pod.

Analysts speculate that the Sony PSP's "disappointing" TGS showing--and lack of a fixed price point--may be causing investors to flock to Nintendo.
Even though the company was a TGS no-show, Nintendo's stock price shot up early this week, reports Bloomberg Japan. Nintendo's share price rose 2.1 percent, or 260 yen, to 12,760 yen on the Monday following Tokyo Game Show. Financial analysts in Japan are debating whether the rise in share price was directly influenced by the events of Tokyo Game Show or simply coincidental.
