The PlayStation 3 operating system used at the Tokyo Game Show was apparently not final. Sony confirmed that the company has been in the process of finalizing it and that just like the Wii's OS, it will be upgradeable in the future.
Last week when the news broke regarding the PlayStation 3's technical and overheating problems at TGS, industry sources indicated that the PS3's operating system was not final at the Tokyo Game Show and that that may have led to certain glitches that players experienced at the event.
As it turns out SCEA has...

The focus of the three-day show is PlayStation 3 from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., which announced earlier this month that its Europe launch would be delayed until March. PS3 will go on sale on Nov. 11 in Japan and Nov. 17 in the United States.
During a talk session, SCE President Ken Kutaragi said the company is doing its utmost to stick to the revised launch schedule. The PS3 was first expected to hit stores worldwide in the spring but was changed to November before the delay of the European launch.

Today's news of a European delay for PS3 might have seemed like a blessing to some in the U.S. freeing up much needed stock for the launch over here. It might even have seemed like Sony had finally swallowed its pride and agreed that a worldwide launch is a bad idea. These would have been good things.
But the delay is symptomatic of a much bigger problem, indicated by Ken Kutaragi in Tokyo yesterday. Shortages of PS3 are going to be horrendous. We are not talking here, about long lines outside retail outlets, but numbers that barely...

Nintendo seems to have set aside mid-September as worldwide Wii day. According to Japan's Kabushiki Shimbun newspaper, the company will be showing off the Wii to the Japanese press at an event scheduled to be held on 9/14.
The Nintendo event will be held one week before the Tokyo Game Show, where Sony and Microsoft will show off their own next generation offerings. Nintendo does not attend TGS, instead opting for its own product showings.

Analysts speculate that the Sony PSP's "disappointing" TGS showing--and lack of a fixed price point--may be causing investors to flock to Nintendo.
Even though the company was a TGS no-show, Nintendo's stock price shot up early this week, reports Bloomberg Japan. Nintendo's share price rose 2.1 percent, or 260 yen, to 12,760 yen on the Monday following Tokyo Game Show. Financial analysts in Japan are debating whether the rise in share price was directly influenced by the events of Tokyo Game Show or simply coincidental.
